Welcome to our trade and manufacturing website. John Chapman Limited is a long established company based in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. John Chapman's origins lie in making traditional canvas and leather fishing and game bags. Over the years the Company's product range has expanded to include travel, shoulder, business and leisure bags for both men and women.

John Chapman manufactures exclusively from an old converted tannery in Carlisle, in the heart of the Cumbrian borders and close to the beautiful Lake District. 

We make bags using traditional hand crafted techniques. Our machinists are renowned for their craftsmanship, with years of experience in bag making. They stitch using their own judgement and dexterity rather than simply relying on computer control. Like a tailored suit, our bags are hand cut from patterns on a cutting table instead of being mechanically mass produced. We insist on only using the finest materials, wherever possible from natural sources and UK suppliers. You can read more about our craftsmanship and materials by clicking Materials.

We offer a wholesale range under the Chapman label, which is exported around the world to countries including Germany, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Australia and France. We also cater for manufacturing clients who wish to develop styles under their own label, sometimes using our existing styles as base models, sometimes developing their own.
